Access World Doubles Houston Warehouse Capacity

As one of the world’s leading 3rd party logistics (3PL) service providers, Access World is pleased to announce that one of its key assets located in Houston, Texas, recently underwent a massive expansion to better meet the needs of clients around the world looking for warehousing space and transloading solutions.

Access World, which operates in more than 25 countries worldwide, recently doubled the footprint of its Houston warehouse space, which now boasts 283,000 square feet of indoor storage capacity as well as a one-acre outdoor storage yard.

The facility, which first started operations in 2014, is served by both Union Pacific and BNSF rail lines. As a designated FTZ (Foreign Trade Zone), it meets the needs of clients who import and export goods.

This is especially great news for the alternative energy sector, which has been experiencing unprecedented growth due to climate change concerns, and political influence and initiatives. In fact, Access World became the biggest transloader of solar panels in Houston through their FTZ & Non-FTZ warehouses, meaning they have proven experience handling sensitive goods at demanding volumes.

When an importer partners with Access World, they get expert assistance through every step of the importing process, beginning when the container arrives at port. Access World can arrange the drayage to pick up the container from container terminals and take these goods from port to an Access World warehouse. From there, Access World arranges the unloading and storing of all materials imported into the warehouse; and when the time comes for these goods to be used or consumed, the white-glove service continues with the organization of trucking or railing all the way to last mile delivery.

When exporting, goods will stay securely in the warehouses until it’s time to send them on their way. Access World can book containers directly with shipping lines since they are an NVOCC (Non-Vessel-Operating Common Carrier). Empty containers are easily filled with cargo that has been awaiting export as soon as the booking is confirmed, ensuring fast turnaround.

A global 3PL operator like Access World helps support the global supply chain by:

  • Facilitating the customs clearing at origin and/or destination
  • Booking Ocean and Airfreight cargo
  • Delivering cargo to end customers via road or rail

Access World truly provides a seamless end-to-end supply chain solution delivered by a deeply experienced and versatile team.

Another key feature of Access World’s world service offering is the drayage and transloading of heavy containers (up 59,000 pounds of cargo weight per container). This enables customers to maximize their container payload and save significantly on historically high ocean freight rates. Thanks to having a lift capacity of 36,000 pounds, Access World makes it possible to handle heavy cargo such as large aluminum and steel coils or project cargo. The expanded capabilities allow the Houston warehouse to function as an even greater support to global importers looking to bring goods into the US.

Access World’s new footprint in Houston has improved its handling capacity to 1000 containers per month, 5 railcar loads and 50 truck loads, per day.

The facility is certified by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) making it fully equipped to handle beverages of all kinds, including alcohol. In addition, Access World’s facility is USDA certified which enables it to handle and store non-refrigerated food grade cargo. Having the USDA label has allowed Access World to participate in the USAID export program which advances global food security to communities in need.

Customers can also take advantage of Access World Houston’s order fulfillment services, which can drop ship inventory with ease from its warehouses around the country: another valuable service that Access World provides as a 3PL operator.

Access World has experience with everything from ferrous and non-ferrous metals to forest and agricultural products, as well as project cargo, polymers and chemicals. Some examples of materials Access World handles are coils and pipes, plywood & copy paper, aluminum, charcoal, floor loaded goods, solar panels and many more.

Since 1933 Access World has served a diverse range of clients including producers, traders, financiers, and consumers. Access World operates locations spanning main ports of entry in North and South America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

The greatly expanded warehouse footprint in Houston gives Access World the ability to meet the growing needs of their clients with more space than ever before.
