We are an approved warehouse keeper of the London Metal Exchange (LME) and Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), and we provide warehousing and associated logistics and value-added service to traders, producers, financiers and consumers of non-ferrous and ferrous metals, ferroalloys and minor metals etc. Our worldwide offices and operations span across Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe & Middle East, and the Americas. Each region operating in semi-autonomous offices with their own corporate functions including Commercial, Finance, HR, Compliance & Legal, Customer Service, and Operations.

Reports to: Commercial Director North America

Purposes of the position:

  • Manage and lead the Freight and Project Forwarding business to develop and execute the commercial strategy in order to expand the freight and project cargo business.
  • The desk handles freight procurement, vendor management and sales as well as Commercial Account Management covering AW Network, offices and Key Clients.
  • A highly motivated individual with the relevant skill sets, capable of developing compelling value propositions that foster strong relationships, managing and selling all Access World Freight business and services (in line with Freight and Project Forwarding budget revenues, commercial plans and targets, etc.).

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Managing Freight & Project Forwarding sales Team.
  • New Business development dedicating time to own sales activity.
  • Focus on Access World’s existing target sectors as well as new sectors that is in line with company strategy.
  • Manage Freight & Project Forwarding business and maintain a broad network of vendors and relationships aligned with products, markets and trade-flows.
  • Commercial account management of our network, offices and Key Clients including quotation handling, sourcing of services and rates as well as PnL management.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction meeting customer’s requirements with a reasonable response-time, rate competitiveness and validity periods.
  • Source and select reliable and competitive freight forwarders, carriers (Sea and Air) and other transport providers meeting the companies and customer requirements as well as monitor and track their service performance (service failures, issues, disputes and claims).
  • Develop and Maintain Clearing & Forwarding and Project Cargo Networks.
  • Assist and support internal departments/offices in relation to freight bookings and carrier related issues.
  • Manage and coordinate project forwarding shipments between the Commercial and Customer Service department including but not limited to sea freight (Vessel/Part Charter/LCL/FCL), air freight shipment and inland trucking.
  • Engage prospects and customers to present and sell the company’s services, always furthering relationships to grow and expand the company’s business.
  • Build relationships at all levels and represents the company in a professional manner, including making presentations and attending networking events.
  • Provide management reporting including business reviews, sales planning, meetings and visit reports, etc.
  • Develop and manage shipping procedures and related documentation as per the companies’ requirements.
  • Attend national and international conferences.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
  • Ensure compliance to Access World Group Policies.

Specific requirements for the position

  • A degree from a recognized University in the field of logistics would be advantageous.
  • Minimum 10 years Commercial management and sales experience in a Freight Forwarding or NVOCC environment, with a minimum of 5 years in management capacity.
  • Resourceful with excellent commercial and entrepreneurial flair are critical to the success of this role.
  • Strong builder of relationships with interest parties.
  • Good knowledge of the shipping and logistics management industries.
  • Proven ability to work on cross-functional and multicultural teams.
  • Strong character, initiative, creative, innovative and analytical skills.
  • Meticulous, responsible and positive working attitude.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptable and able to accommodate prevailing conditions.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Good leadership and influencing skills with a collaborative work style, fostering cooperation and teamwork.
  • Result oriented and self-starter.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high pressure and fast paced working environment.
  • Ability to travel regularly locally and regionally when required and on short notice.
  • Availability after hours and flexible in working with partners from different time zone when required.
  • Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Superior interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Good in both written and spoken English. Spanish speakers a plus but not a must.
  • Project cargo experience.
