Access World is a global Freight & Project forwarding and commodities warehousing company including logistics business. Active in 30 countries, we offer complete logistics, storage and supply chain solutions, tailor-made to our customer requirements for various commodities including metals and minerals, soft commodities, chemicals, renewables, oil & gas, project and general cargo. We are an approved warehouse keeper of the London Metal Exchange (LME) and Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), and we provide warehousing and associated logistics and value-added service to traders, producers, financiers and consumers of non-ferrous and ferrous metals, ferroalloys and minor metals etc. Our worldwide offices and operations span across Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe & Middle East, and the Americas. Each region operating in semi-autonomous offices with their own corporate functions including Commercial, Finance, HR, Compliance & Legal, Customer Service, and Operations.
Reports to: Managing Director, USA
Summary of the position:
- General management of operations, coordination and leadership of the Access World Houston operations. This position is full time onsite in Baytown, TX and reports to the Managing Director of the USA
- This position is responsible for the overall management and growth of our Houston operations by formulating a clear strategy, managing performance and allocating the resources to deliver on this strategy
- The role requires a commercial & entrepreneurial mindset, can-do attitude and hands-on leadership
- Deep knowledge of the Houston logistics market as well as experience in managing a logistics company are key requirements for this position
- Experience with contracted distribution services and warehouse racking systems will be considered a plus

External
- Customers, both local and international
- Strategic service providers (e.g. transporters, brokers, port operators, carrier agents, freight forwarders, vendors etc.)
- Various C&F and Project Cargo Networks and events
Internal
- Various departments such as Commercial, Compliance, HSEC and Finance
- Overseas offices and branches

Specific requirements for the position:
- Proven experience at Senior Management level, managing teams of 50 FTE or more
- A bachelor’s degree from a recognized University in the field of logistics or management is advantageous
- Minimum 10 years of management in a commercial environment to include knowledge of sales, warehousing operations and customer service
- Strong knowledge of commercial and logistics management, including the full scope of clearing and forwarding services
- Knowledge of business and management principles involving strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective storage; handling, transport and distribution of goods production methods, and coordination of people and resources in relation to commercial operations
- Must be adaptable and able to adjust to accommodate prevailing conditions, able to handle tight scheduling, fast-paced, high volume levels of activity to shift priorities and multi-task as needed
- Strong analytical mind set, using operational and financial data (KPI) to make sound business decisions
- Resourceful with excellent commercial and entrepreneurial flair are critical to the success of this role
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Proven ability to work on cross-functional and multicultural teams
- Result oriented and self-starter, superior leadership and influencing skills with a focus on developing a collaborative work style by fostering cooperation and teamwork
- Must be proficient with computer and appropriate software (i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
- Must also be capable of sitting, standing and walking for extended periods.
- Proficiency in both the written and spoken English language. Spanish is a plus but not a must.
- Ability to work effectively in a high pressure and fast paced working environment
- Ability to travel regularly locally and regionally when required and on short notice
- Availability after hours and flexibility to work with partners from different time zone ad hoc
