Background of Company
Access World is a global commodity warehousing and logistics business. We specialize in handling, storage, and processing of commodities including non-ferrous and ferrous metals, ferroalloys, project cargo, oil & gas, and other agricultural products. In addition, we are an approved warehouse keeper of the London Metal Exchange, and we provide LME warehousing and associated services to traders, producers, financiers, and consumers of base metals. In addition, we provide physical warehouse and related logistics services for commodities such as cocoa beans, rubber, cotton, and other agricultural products. Access World also acts as collateral manager of ferroalloys, minor metals as well as oil and gas. Regions operate in semi-autonomous offices with their corporate functions including commercial, finance HR, legal, and operations.
Job Summary / Purpose: Export/ Multimodal Controller
Responsible for all functions relating to sea and road freight exports. Controller with Logistics and Supply Chain typically involves overseeing and managing the outbound operations of a company, ensuring compliance with export regulations, and collaborating closely with sales stakeholders for on-time deliveries. The multimodal Controller is responsible for tracking and coordinating shipments, local transportation, managing client orders, liaising with shipping agents and transporters, and meticulously handling documentation for a smooth customs process related to warehousing, especially on Racking, general cargo.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Operational – High level strategic
- Ensuring documentation accuracy and compliance, tracking shipments, and coordinating with shipping agents and transporters for a streamlined export process
- Collaborating closely with sales stakeholders for on-time deliveries and providing timely and accurate information to internal stakeholder.
- Preparing required documentation for international orders, ensuring compliance with logistics regulations, and handling documentation for a smooth customs process
- Fostering effective communication among various departments for smooth outbound operations and independently handling work activities,
- Ensuring compliance with export regulations and maintaining knowledge of shipping documents and procedures
- Utilizing strong analytical skills to monitor and analyse logistics operations and identify areas for improvement
- Implementing cost control measures to optimize logistics operations
Operational – detailed
- Securing Ocean freight space and competitive rates for export customers – previous shipping line experience an advantage
- Securing ocean freight space on various shipping line / ocean freight booking websites
- experience in negotiation an advantage
- Shipping line schedules updates
- Submitting Shipping Instructions
- Coordinating draft and final OBL’s
- Resolving Shipping line queries
- Ability to work extended hours and under pressure.
- Invoicing and file balancing on Shipshape
- Experience in general breakbulk cargo handling for racking
- Shipping line and transport accounts/invoices allocation to team
- All service levels pertaining to the customers’ requirements.
- Effective Communication – internal and external
- Daily communication with clients, shipping lines and service providers
- Liaising internally with stock team / operations team / finance / Intermodal
- All correspondence to clients relating to their stock and shipments

KPI’s for export controller
- On-time delivery rate: Measures the percentage of shipments delivered on time and throughput of general cargo handing
- Cost per shipment: Measures the cost of each shipment
- Customer satisfaction rating: Measures the level of satisfaction of customers with the export process
- Inventory turnover ratio: Measures the number of times inventory is sold and replaced in a given period
- Customs clearance time: Measures the time taken to clear customs for each shipment
- Percentage of shipments with damage or loss: Measures the percentage of shipments that are damaged or lost during the export process
- Average order cycle time: Measures the time taken to process an order from start to finish
- Compliance rate: Measures how well the company adheres to export regulations
- Market share: Measures the company’s share of the total market
Reporting activities required
- Daily Vessel Schedule updates to the clients
- Internal Shipping line allocation reporting
- OBL reporting
- Daily shipment schedules to the clients
- Weekly FNI / FNB
- Daily invoicing schedules
- Updating shipping line recons
- Export File Acquittals
- Any other reporting when required.

Minimum qualification / training and experience
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, international business, or a related field may be preferred
- Experience: 2-4 years of operational experience in import/export activities
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of international trade, customs regulations, and logistics management
- Language Skills: Fluency in English is essential, as it is the most international of languages.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and analytical skills are essential for an Export Controller to effectively collaborate with stakeholders and manage relationships

- Certifications: Certifications in export compliance, logistics management, or supply chain management may be preferred
