Access World is a global commodity warehousing and logistics business. We specialize in handling, Storage, and processing of commodities including non-ferrous and ferrous metals, ferroalloys, project cargo, oil & gas, and other agricultural products. In addition, we are an approved warehouse keeper of the London Metal Exchange, and we provide LME warehousing and associated services to traders, producers, financiers, and consumers of base metals. In addition, we provide physical warehouse and related logistics services for commodities such as cocoa beans, rubber, cotton, and other agricultural products. Access World also acts as collateral manager of ferroalloys, minor metals as well as oil and gas. Regions operate in semi-autonomous offices with their corporate functions including commercial, finance HR, legal, and operations.

Purpose of the position:
The Accountant will be responsible for the accurate reporting for the South African entities in terms of IFRS and focus on monthly financial and management accounting.
Key Requirements/ Responsibilities:
- Maintain full control of the bookkeeper function in the financial/administration department
- Maintain and review internal controls and implement policies and procedures
- Financial/Administration Duties
- Adhere to all deadlines
- Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Preparation of monthly management accounts, including Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash flow Statements
- Intercompany transactions ensuring accuracy
- Monthly Business Unit expense analysis
- Budget Variance Analysis by Business Unit & overall company
- Month-End Reporting
- Reviewing of opex-related invoices
- Audit and review of Petty Cash recons
- VAT Returns / Reconciliations including SARS e-filing submissions
- Assist with Internal Audit requirements
- Assist with external annual audits
- Update and review FAR and tax asset registers monthly
Day to day tasks:
- Preparation of journal entry postings
- Review of interfacing files, across all regions in AWSA and resolution of issues identified
- Monitor and supervise the process of capturing of expenses to ensure valid, accurate and complete processing
- Daily reporting on specific account balances
- Daily/weekly reporting of intercompany balances
- Guiding the rest of the finance team (including AP/AR/Accountants) by providing support to ensure accurate reporting
Month end tasks:
- Review of balance sheet accounts
- Preparation of key balance sheet reconciliations
- Preparation of journals required for revenue accruals, revenue reports and analysis of revenue system reports
- Preparation of Month end reporting to Group: FRP submission by region for accuracy
- Assistance with monthly schedules / accrued expenses recons/ prepayments
- Review of business units PnL by ensuring accuracy on PnL reporting
- Working with different business units to understand segment reporting
- Liaising with various business units (operations /legal / HR/ GM’s) to provide solutions
Other Responsibilities:
- Assistance with preparation of year-end financial statements
- Responding to audit and other queries
- Systems improvements
- Budget preparation
- Ensuring accurate and timely preparation of financial and management reports to senior management
- Work closely with finance teams of entities across the group, understanding the reporting processes
- Take ownership and initiative to review, enhance, streamline, and monitor finance workflows, internal controls, and processes to improve efficiency
- Prepare monthly and annual results by IFRS reporting standards
- Liaison with external professionals on audit, tax, secretarial and other issues to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:
- B Com degree or equivalent qualification
- Min 3-5 years accounting work experience
- Ability to work accurately and within deadlines
- High level of analytical skills
- Ability to pay attention to detail
- Ability to plan and prioritize
- Good organizational skills
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Above-average Excel skills
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
- Completed articles would be most advantageous for the role
- Oracle system experience
- Logistics industry experience
- Working knowledge of forex and exchange control (an advantage)
- SAP Business One or Microsoft Dynamics experience
